One of the advantages of Pinta is it's resemblance to MS Paint making it easier for new converts to Linux to use. I also want it to be simple enough that others I've converted to Linux can use it without needing hand-holding. I want something simple to do basic edits (crop, resize, convert) and to occasionally write instructions over a screenshot to assist friends & family. I don't want a multi-tool I'm quite happy with Mint's screenshot app.

I don't want a program that's not in the Mint repos.

Recommend unchecking the Options -> Settings -> Painter -> Dynamic Cursor. It is available as an AppImage for super easy installation into any Linux Mint edition and version. * If you want a really great screenshot (printscreen) application which can also open existing images and also has excellent painter functions, can crop and scale, upload to 'imgur', etc. If this can't be resolved, does anyone know a lightweight substitute (GIMP is overkill and I find Pix to be too awkward and non-intuitive)? As it's still in the Mint software repos, it ought to work. Have others seen this behavior? I would like to resolve this issue if possible, since I've been using Pinta frequently to crop and resize (food pics for recipes in Gourmet, album art for Sansa Fuze, images to email) and found it to be a quick and dirty solution for these things. Seem to think that it's obsolete (ubuntu-mate) or that it's an issue with Mono (askubuntu) not Pinta. The only recent (post 2012) links I found when searching for this issue: Like the laptop, I've been using Pinta on both of these systems in Mint 18 with no issues.

I'm getting the same behavior on this system as well as an FX-6300 w/AMD graphics and 16 GB RAM that was had a clean install of 19. I then tried to edit the images on a Ryw/AMD graphics and 16 GB RAM that was upgraded to 19 before the Mesa issue arose. I tried completely removing Pinta with Synaptic and reinstalling after a reboot with no change. I had used Pinta on this machine for 2 years with various iterations of Mint 18 (all Cinnamon) with no problems. This was on a Lenovo Z580 I5 w/Intel graphics and 8 GB RAM that had been restored to 18.3 with Timeshift due to the Mesa issue, and then upgraded to 19. I attempted to close all other programs to free up available memory still had the same issue. Attempting to close a frozen instance would result in a '.not responding.' message. As soon as the image was loaded, Pinta would either freeze or crash to the desktop (i.e., close). The program would open, and seem to be fine until I loaded an image. I recently tried to use Pinta to notate some screenshots to assist another user.
